About the event

In 2021, Andrea Lu took part in Napoli… imaginée — La mostra della ripartenza, Season 1, a group exhibition organised by Monteoliveto Gallery and MG Paris in collaboration with Galleria Salvatore Serio in Naples.

Born out of the constraints of the pandemic, the exhibition was part of Monteoliveto Gallery’s Cities of Europe project, which explores European cities through the individual perspectives of its artists. The concept was simple and poetic: each artist received a written description of a neighbourhood in Naples — with no photographs — and was invited to create an original work inspired solely by those words. The aim was not to depict Naples as it is known, but as it is imagined: some artists had visited, some lived there, others had never set foot in the city. The works, designed in a lightweight, nomadic format, were intended to travel toward and through the city itself — photographed in situ, in the very neighbourhoods they depicted.

First presented in virtual format on 29 March 2021, this in-person edition marked the return of live events for Monteoliveto Gallery. The title itself — Napoli… imaginée — bridges languages and cultures, much like the project as a whole.

Andrea Lu exhibited alongside Dominique Jeanne Benguigui, Pascale Binant, Moufida Bouamari, Audrey Christ, Ama Diamante, Giulia Giannola, Janus, Alissa Thor, Richard Tisserant and Ciro Vignes.
