About the event

In 2021, Andrea Lu took part in the 2nd edition of MAD for Naples and for Somma Vesuvio, a group exhibition organised by Monteoliveto Gallery and MG Paris in collaboration with the Neapolitan associations Vesuviani in cammino and Vulcano Metropolitano — centro incontro delle arti, with the support of the City of Naples, the Metropolitan City, the Vesuvius National Park and the Municipality of Massa di Somma.

In the spirit of its first edition, this ambitious project brought together twenty artists from across the globe — from France to the United States, from Argentina to Peru, from Russia to Australia — around a shared invitation: to offer a personal and original vision of Naples and the Somma-Vesuvius region, beyond familiar representations. The exhibition was held in the exceptional setting of Castel dell’Ovo, in the evocative Sala delle Carceri — an iconic monument rising from the islet of Megaride on the shores of the Bay of Naples.

Andrea Lu presented Parthenope, a work drawing on the mythical, founding origins of the city. Her piece evokes the islet of Megaride, the legendary birthplace of Naples, where Castel dell’Ovo now stands — once a wave-battered island, later a monastery, then a pleasure villa — and which owes its first name, Parthenope, to the Greek siren said to have found her final resting place there.

Andrea Lu exhibited alongside Thérèse Boisclair, Talia Duclos, Lis Engel, Danisa Glusevic, Martin Randall Joyce, Kerstin Kager, Alexandra Khan, Bénédicte Klene, Jana Masik, Micaela Pagener, Volkmar Petermann, Sanne Rasmussen, Cynthia Ruse, Annette Schreiber, Serenella Sossi, Gabriella Taranto, Christiane Tureczek, Fu Wenjun and Yolaine Wuest.
